Mpox (Human Monkeypox Virus) & EMS Information

Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are tracking multiple cases of mpox (human monkeypox virus) reported in several countries that don’t normally report the virus, including the United States and Canada. This is a rare disease caused by infection with the human monkeypox virus. Mpox belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae, which also includes smallpox and cowpox viruses.

Vermont now has several confirmed cases of illness from mpox. The risk to the general public remains low. However, we anticipate more confirmed cases of mpox, and it is likely more cases are going undetectedLearn more about the Health Department's mpox response efforts.
