The Vermont Prescription Monitoring System (VPMS) is a highly effective tool for reducing prescription drug misuse and diversion.
VPMS collects, monitors and analyzes electronically transmitted prescribing and dispensing data submitted by pharmacies and dispensing practitioners. This information is used to support and coordinate clinical care and substance misuse prevention, and to assist in understanding the patterns of controlled substance prescribing and dispensing in Vermont.
As state and national reports indicate that the misuse of prescription drugs is the fastest growing area of use and addiction, VPMS proactively safeguards public health and safety while supporting the legitimate use of controlled substances.
