In addition to conducting a national census count every ten years, the U.S. Census Bureau produces annual population estimates. These estimates include town population totals and estimates by age (five year age groups) and gender at the county level. In cooperation with the National Center for Health Statistics, estimates by single year of age and gender are produced.
The county and town tables presented here are produced from these annual estimates. The Vermont Department of Health uses the county age-gender estimates, in conjunction with the town total estimates, to produce age-gender estimates for non-county geographies, such as Agency of Human Services and Health Department districts.
Intercensal Estimates
Upon the completion of each national census, the annual estimates for the previous decade are recalculated using the Census counts as endpoints. The estimates for 2001-2009 presented here replace the post-censal estimates published from 2001-2009. Intercensal estimates for 1991-1999 are also available.
