Stimulants 101
Description
This training provides an introduction to stimulant use disorder, including evidence-informed treatments and interventions. Topics include stigma, the pharmacology and effects of psychostimulants, the identification of stimulant overdose (overamping), the management of acute stimulant intoxication, de-escalation techniques, and evidence-based treatments and interventions for stimulant use disorders.
Objectives
Following this training, participants will have the knowledge to:
- Understand the role of psychostimulants in the overdose epidemic and recognize population disparities.
- Recognize signs of stimulant intoxication, overdose (overamping), and withdrawal.
- Identify evidence-based interventions for acute stimulant intoxication and post-acute care for stimulant use disorder.
- Describe the basic principles of de-escalation to promote safety for patients with active stimulant use and their caregivers.
- Identify health risks associated with stimulant use and how to apply harm reduction interventions.
For trainings that indicate Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available, contact the organizer and/or the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation to verify that the credits will count toward the continuing education requirements of your licensure or certification.
