It is well established that having a sense of purpose is key to thriving in life. In a world that is facing the human-technology frontier, youth may struggle to envision the future when traditional career pathways are constantly changing. When youth are unsure of their path and there is no guidance available to them, it creates risk factors that may expose them to substance use. When support is in place and available for guidance, a sense of purpose is instilled that can contribute greatly to their well-being.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe career pathways theory and its relevance to substance use prevention among youth
- Discuss the fundamentals of career development
- Explain the importance of community partnerships, mentorship, and in- and out-of-school support in identifying career pathways for youth
