Evaluation Workshop 2: Gathering Data to Tell Your Story: Interviews, Focus Groups, & Testimonials

Numbers are important, but stories bring prevention work to life. This workshop will teach you how to collect and use qualitative data—real stories, conversations, and feedback—to strengthen your program and communicate its impact. You’ll learn best practices for running focus groups, interviewing participants, and gathering testimonials that are meaningful and ethical. We’ll also talk about how to combine stories with data to make your evaluation findings more compelling.

You will also receive our “The Storytelling & Qualitative Data Toolkit,” which provides a step-by-step guide and checklist to help you demonstrate the impact of your work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Lead focus groups and interviews to gather valuable feedback
  • Collect testimonials that tell a powerful story while keeping ethics in mind
  • Make sense of open-ended responses and identify key themes
Use real stories to highlight your impact alongside statistics and data
