A Fresh Look at the Strategic Prevention Framework: Community-Centered Prevention in Action

Session 2: Building Capacity with Connection

Capacity is more than just resources—it's the energy that flows through a healthy ecosystem. In this session, we look at how to build capacity by cultivating strong, reciprocal relationships across sectors, generations, and identities. We’ll explore how to activate networks, develop and support local leaders (including youth) as prevention stewards, and create the conditions that allow communities to address substance use from a place of commitment and collaboration. When our partners are truly connected and aligned, prevention efforts can take root and grow in powerful ways while building the social capital of all involved.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the SPF process as one that cultivates a dynamic and interdependent web of community relationships and adapts to changing community environments
  • Introduce key attributes of Step 2 of the Strategic Prevention Framework, Capacity
  • Build prevention capacity by fostering connection and shared leadership across community sectors, generations, and identities
