Healthy Vermonters & Health Status Reports

Healthy Vermonters & Health Status Reports

Since 1992 Vermont has been using the national Healthy People framework to create our own set of Healthy Vermonters population health objectives. Monitoring health data is an essential function of public health, and the Department of Health uses Healthy Vermonters to engage policymakers, government, health and human services professionals, and the public in setting, measuring and working to achieve long term public health outcomes.

Healthy Vermonter 2020 is wrapping up

The Healthy Vermonters 2020 assessment documents the health status of Vermonters during the last decade. It presents more than 100 public health indicators and outcomes carefully chosen by state government, health and human services professionals, and the public from the many hundreds set out by the Healthy People 2020 initiative to improve the health of the nation.

Healthy Vermonters 2030 is coming

As we transition into a new decade, staff from across the department are contributing to our new Healthy Vermonters 2030. This new set of objectives are being informed by the data we have been monitoring for the last decade, along with important lessons we have learned from staff, partners, and community during an unprecedented pandemic. Our department’s focus on understanding and finding ways to increase health equity in Vermont is a key focus for the next decade.

Vermont is proud to participate with the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion as a Healthy People 2030 Champion. Our goals for Healthy Vermonters 2030 and our plans to leverage the Healthy People framework align with vision and mission of HHS Healthy People 2030. We are excited to join with the national Healthy People initiative to focus on health equity and the social determinants of health. For us this is essential to successfully improve the health and wellbeing of our population, and it is a key component for leveraging shared values with partners and other stakeholders to support the collaboration that is needed to get us all to where we want to be in 2030.

For the most up to date Healthy Vermonters data, maps and trends, use the Healthy Vermonters Data Explorer and Healthy Vermonters 2020 Performance Scorecards. Both have topic-specific reports with statewide population data. The scorecards also have performance measures about how the State of Vermont and partner programs are performing, while the data explorer is the primary tool for accessing county, local health office district and hospital service area population data with maps, trends and community profiles.
