The Health Department is committed to being accessible and inclusive, both for the Vermonters we serve and those we work with. Our goal is to follow accessibility practices whenever we provide services and to create accessible and inclusive communications.
OUR STATUS IN MEETING STANDARDS
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines define requirements for designers and developers to improve website accessibility for people with disabilities. There are three levels of accessibility outlined: Level A, Level AA and Level AAA. Level AAA ensures the best accessibility. At this time, the Health Department strives to meet Level AA.
Healthvermont.gov partially conforms with the Level AA standard. That means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard today. We continue to work to improve accessibility. There are also aspects of the website that already meet the highest level of accessibility (Level AAA), for example, where videos are offered with American Sign Language interpretation.
STEPS WE ARE TAKING TO SUPPORT ACCESSIBILITY
- Include accessibility as a core competency for staff.
- Reflect accessibility standards in all files and on all websites.
- Provide ongoing accessibility training for our staff.
- Involve people with disabilities to provide user feedback.
- Include people with disabilities in our design and images.
LIMITATIONS AND ALTERNATIVES
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility at the Health Department, there may be some limitations. One known limitation concerns older documents. Older documents might not work with assistive technologies because they use technologies that do not support accessibility. We convert documents to new formats upon request. Please email [email protected] for support.
ACCOMMODATIONS & FEEDBACK
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you have difficulty accessing a page or resource, please let us know so we can improve our accessibility. You can email [email protected]. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback in 5 business days.
If you need an accommodation for an event, or for reading a document or other information, contact the manager of the event or owner of the document (if not known, email [email protected]).
