Prevention in Action: Nantucket Illicit Substance Wastewater Monitoring Project
In this Prevention in Action webinar, the Director of Public Health for the Town and County of Nantucket will describe how they are using a wastewater surveillance program to monitor levels of high-risk substances in the community. With a seasonal population that can quadruple in the summer, the Town faces the unique challenge of managing behavioral health risks with a limited yet consistent set of resources.
In response, the Town has launched a wastewater surveillance program to monitor high-risk substances and opioids in the community. This initiative builds on existing infrastructure developed during the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to support the efforts of local health professionals, first responders, and recovery services through timely, community-wide data.
