Session 1: Developing an IOP Curriculum
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the concept of curriculum-based training, its content, uses, and pros and cons
- Discuss how to assess if group is the best educational forum for the client (considering which diagnoses and learning issues may influence this decision)
- Examine curriculum design, including language, information included, optimal formats, and presentation length relative to topic complexity
- Identify topics and examine whether they are the most relevant for the time period that the client is in the treatment process (teaching relevant "boots on ground" practical application)
- Match curriculum content and presentation to Stage of Change, including considerations for language, concepts, and readiness (80% of those entering treatment, regardless of how many times, are in one of the first three Stages of Change)
