Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) Approach to Substance Use/Misuse Intervention

For families and communities impacted by the opioid and substance use disorder epidemic, finding a way to lovingly support a friend or family member struggling with using substances, while still maintaining healthy boundaries, can often be challenging.

We are excited to host an introductory presentation on Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). The CRAFT approach to substance use/misuse intervention teaches family members how to support and communicate with someone who has a substance use disorder or who is misusing drugs and alcohol. This approach focuses on using positive reinforcement to combat substance use and encourage steps toward recovery. CRAFT can help family members support a loved one without relying on confrontation or shame. Instead, loved ones focus on rewarding positive behaviors to help guide behavior change with empathy and care.
