Common Practices that Hurt Survivors and Their Antidotes

Many standard practices in substance use disorder care can unintentionally endanger or retraumatize survivors of intimate partner violence. This webinar highlights seven common approaches—including rigid intake/exit policies, sequential treatment of trauma and addiction, victim-blaming attitudes, required mutual aid participation, unsafe partner inclusion, coercive tactics, and suspicion toward clients—that create barriers to safety and healing. Participants will learn practical "antidotes" and trauma-informed alternatives to better support survivors in recovery.
