Presenter Biography:

Jungjin Kim, MD, is Medical Director of the Alcohol, Drug, and Addiction Inpatient Program at McLean Hospital and Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is triple board-certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry, and has practiced across every level of care, including outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, inpatient, quaternary medical centers, and correctional settings. He has taught addiction psychiatry to residents, fellows, and practicing clinicians, including buprenorphine training courses and Harvard Medical School CME programs. He has participated in two national NIH implementation studies, the NIDA Clinical Trials Network and the HEALing Communities Study. He has served as Annual Meeting Program Committee Chair for the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and on the ACGME Addiction Psychiatry Milestone Work Group. He provides forensic consultation and expert witness services in civil and criminal cases.

At the conclusion of this learning session, participants will be able to: 

• Distinguish bipolar disorder from substance-induced mood presentations and substance intoxication or withdrawal.
• Identify bipolar disorder accurately using longitudinal history and screening.
• Initiate pharmacologic treatment safely in a general medical setting, including interactions with medications for opioid use disorder.
• Describe the roles of prescribers, nursing, psychotherapy, and care coordination in identification, monitoring, and escalation.
