Risk and Protective Factors Affecting Urban Populations with Substance Use Disorders
The realities of urban settings affect the type and flow of substances, realities related to access, as well as treatment options and challenges. By reflecting on the impact of urban environments on outreach and prevention efforts, we can more deeply explore and effectively plan valuable interventions. From realities affecting the supply of substances, to the challenges facing urban facilities, we will explore the opportunities and obstacles influencing care and affecting people in urban areas who are pursuing substance use treatment
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Recite at least four realities that distinguish the experience of substance use and treatment within urban communities from rural and suburban populations
- Describe the unique impact that an urban location can have on prevention and outreach services
- Explain how they can address and mitigate the challenges affecting substance misuse treatment access and utilization unique to urban settings
