Healthy Homes in Chittenden County

A major role of the Healthy Homes Team in the Burlington Local Health Office is to offer testing for lead or referral for children enrolled in the WIC program. If a lead result is above normal, we connect with the health care provider for recommended follow up. We follow the guidelines and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Vermont Department of Health Healthy Homes program.

We also provide lead prevention education to our community and connect families to community-based programs. Residents in the cities of Burlington and Winooski may be eligible to participate in the Burlington Lead Program, which is a part of Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office.

We provide educational materials for medical providers and the public including fact sheets about lead testing, home radon testing, drinking water quality testing for homeowners and other ways to keep homes healthy and safe.
