The St. Johnsbury Local Health Office partners with local emergency planners, businesses, planning commissions and local fire, ambulance and law enforcement agencies to help our community access needed resources and help in the event of a public health emergency. Our community partners include Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NRVH) and Northern Counties Health Care (NCHC).
From weather events and widespread infectious disease, to accidents and threats to public safety, public health crises come in many different forms. Every home, business and school should have an updated emergency plan in place to ensure everyone is safe in the event of an emergency. Our staff works with businesses in our region to create and review their emergency plans.
We routinely practice our ability to establish satellite sites to dispense vaccines or antibiotics from during an emergency. Several of these sites in our area can be activated on short notice and help prepare our community to efficiently respond to a crisis. Our staff also provides training sessions to various organizations and groups to develop understanding and reassurance should the need for response occur.
Private organizations and companies can operate as a distribution site to dispense medicine and resources to their staff in order to relieve pressure on public distribution sites during a public health emergency. If your organization is interested in learning more about becoming a distribution site, contact the St. Johnsbury Local Health Office at 802-748-5151.
The Safety Express Newsletter is distributed quarterly providing safety and preparedness tips, as well as local statitics and resources.
Our Emergency Preparedness Team also supports the Northeast Kingdom Medical Reserve Corps. This program organizes and trains volunteers in a structured manner should the need for additional medical or non-medical volunteers arise. Learn more about the Medical Reserve Corps.
