Worksite Wellness in Bennington County

Worksite wellness programs and policies are important to helping adults lead healthy lives. Worksites that remove barriers to healthy food choices, physical activity and accessing preventive services help reduce chronic disease risk factors, support emotional and mental health, and boost productivity for their employees. In return, investing in worksite wellness programs can help curb healthcare costs and have other financial benefits for employers.

We provide guidance to workplaces interested in starting an on-site wellness program, supporting the workplace through the planning and implementation phases of their program. We can also connect worksites with resources, partners, and grant opportunities to promote worksite wellness. The Creating a Healthier Worksite Resource guides the workplace in establishing and prioritizing worksite wellness goals.

2015/16 Worksite wellness grant recipient

Sunrise Family Resource Center was the 2015/16 recipient of our Worksite Wellness grant for small employers. To enhance an environment of wellness on-site, Sunrise Family Resource Center:

  • Promoted healthy food options by providing employees with a healthy snack basket.
  • Promoted active lifestyles by offering discounted yoga classes and walking challenges.
  • Increased employee knowledge of wellness practices through monthly emails with creative ideas on wellness, recipes, and community events as well as a “Wellness Board” in a central location with healthy tips, ideas, and recipes.

Breastfeeding Friendly Worksites

Family friendly worksite policies improve employee recruitment and retention. Breastfeeding employees who are returning to work need appropriate space and adequate time to support their breastfeeding.

Can we add your worksite to the list of breastfeeding friendly businesses in our community? Manchester Community Library, Happy Days Play School (Arlington), Northshire Day School, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, The Vermont Country Store and the Vermont Department of Health – Bennington Local Health Office are all leading the way as breastfeeding friendly businesses, and we want to help that list grow.
