We work with community organizations, municipal and regional planners at a local level to build healthy communities. We start with conversations to learn what is important to our towns. From there, we find ways to weave in health and wellness promotion, like sidewalks and healthy food options, that also meet the priorities of our towns, such as economic development. We help town officials and organizations find grant funding to support health-promoting efforts related to the built environment, access to healthy foods, multi-modal transportation options and quality housing.
Towns like Wolcott, Hyde Park and Morristown received start-up money from Health Department grants to purchase planters and add road signs and shared lane markings to roadways. Staff from the Morrisville Local Health Office supported creating small parks in Wolcott and Hyde Park for families or local employees to get out and enjoy some physical activity.
