Updated Guidance: Prevention Strategies for Seasonal Influenza in Healthcare Settings - Open Comment Period
CDC has released into the Federal Register Updated Guidance: Prevention Strategies for Seasonal Influenza in Healthcare Settings for open comment. After a 30-day period, comments will be considered and the guidance finalized. CDC’s goal is to publish the final guidance prior to the 2010-2011 influenza season.
The document updates and replaces previous seasonal influenza guidance and the Interim Guidance on Infection Control Measures for 2009 H1N1 Influenza in Healthcare Settings. Emphasis is on a prevention strategy to be applied across the entire spectrum of healthcare settings and focuses on the importance of vaccination, steps to minimize the potential for exposure such as respiratory hygiene, management of ill healthcare workers, droplet and aerosol-generating procedure precautions, surveillance, and environmental and engineering controls.
Written comments must be received by CDC on or before July 22, 2010.
The complete Federal Register notice and instructions on submitting comments can be found at the following website: http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-15015.pdf
