BURLINGTON – Two Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs #3 and #12 centered in Springfield and White River Junction) hosted the first in a series of regional pandemic flu summits for local responders on April 12 in White River Junction.
The meeting was held from 6:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m. at the Veterans' Administration Research & Agenda Building. In attendance were local first responders, emergency management directors, LEPC members, health department, health care, hospital and municipal officials.
The agenda included a presentation on pandemic flu by State Epidemiologist Dr. Cort Lohff and State Veterinarian Dr. Kerry Rood presenting on bird flu. In addition, state officials discussed emergency management coordination, public health operations, public information and emergency risk communication, and the national incident management system. The evening also included an open discussion and question/answer period.

The regional summits follow on the Governor's Pandemic Flu Summit on January 12 in Burlington, the third of its kind in the U.S., and a statewide meeting of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns that was held on March 24.
