Fruits and Vegetables

Brighten your child's life with fruits and vegetables

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables are important for good health. They provide many essential vitamins and minerals, are low in fat, and high in dietary fiber and complex carbohydrates. They are also colorful and taste great!

WIC encourages you to include fruits and vegetables in your child's diet as often as possible, and provides support to purchase them through the WIC Fruit and Veggie card. In the summer, the Farm to Family coupon program can also help you to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables.

And, WIC’s food package for children just got better!  The WIC fruit and veggie benefit for children increases to $8/month, starting April 1, 2014. We’re excited to celebrate 40 years of strengthening families by providing nutrition education, healthy food, breastfeeding support and healthcare referrals.

Stay tuned! This summer 2015, Vermont WIC transitions from home deliveries to using eWIC at the grocery ctore. You will buy all your foods, including fruits and vegetable, using your new Vermont WIC card. Click here for more information about eWIC.

These pages offer a wide variety of tips that will help you introduce your child to the wonderful flavors and textures of fruits and vegetables, and help build a foundation of healthy eating habits for life.
