Gov. Douglas will announce the first of the CHAMPPS grant recipients (Coordinated Healthy Activity, Motivation and Prevention Programs) during his opening remarks at the fourth annual Vermont Blueprint for Health conference at the Sheraton in South Burlington.
Gov. Douglas will announce the allocation of more than $650,000 to nine recipients who demonstrated in their grant applications that they can deliver a substantial benefit to the health and wellness of their local community.
The multi-year grants will promote programs such as elderly wellness, nutrition and physical activity, lead poisoning prevention, obesity prevention, maternal and child health, immunization, mental health, substance abuse, and tobacco prevention and cessation.
The Vermont Department of Health will issue grants totaling more than $1 million beginning in July 2007 to fund community wellness initiatives statewide to promote healthy behavior and disease prevention across the community and across the lifespan of Vermonters.
