All schools are encouraged to apply. The awards publically recognize schools whose policies and practices reflect a high priority on healthy outcomes for children as well as a culture of health and wellness for employees. Apply now!
Vermont Healthy Schools Resource
The Vermont Healthy Schools Resource: provides school teams with ideas and examples for their school wellness policies.
The Resource complements the Vermont Nutrition and Fitness Policy Guidelines. We believe you will find it to be a valuable tool for implementing school wellness policies for nutrition, physical education and physical activity.
For each policy there is a corresponding page with:

The Healthy Schools Resource is a joint project of the Departments of Education and Health, and the Agency of Agriculture.

School Wellness Awards
The Fit and Healthy Kids School Wellness Awards recognize Vermont schools whose policies and practices reflect a high priority on healthy outcomes for children and staff.
- All Vermont schools in the federal meals program are eligible
- Special consideration to schools with high free/reduced meal rates
- Awards worth $3,000 (gold); $2,000 (silver); $1,000 (bronze) are given out to 3 elementary, 3 middle and 3 high schools for a total of 9 awards
- A $5,000 award is given to the school that is most improved
- All schools that apply receive a recognition poster

The awards are sponsored by the Vermont Departments of Health and Education, New England Dairy and Food Council and the Vermont Health Education Initiative.
