Hearing Health and Communications Program Advisory Council

The mission of the Advisory Council is to guide and advise the Vermont Department of Health about providing information, support, and services to deaf and hard of hearing children aged birth to twenty-one years and their families.

The Advisory Council comprises a diverse group of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents, educators, and health care providers.

Advisory Council Goals

  1. To educate parents, professionals, and the public about the various roles and responsibilities of service providers involved with children who are deaf and’ hard of hearing and about resources available to this population.
  2. To conduct and provide needs assessments for children and other community members with hearing related needs as deemed necessary.
  3. To advocate for children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their parents through promotion of “best practice” of professionals and education of community based organizations with whom these children and parents interact.
  4. To monitor and favorably influence legislation, health care policy and insurance practices that affect children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their parents.
