Replacement Infant Formula Now Available at Health Department District Offices
- Please Distribute Widely -
This health alert is being sent to health care providers statewide after the Health Department learned over the weekend that some Vermont families who have received certain lots of recalled Similac and Isomil powdered infant formula through WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, had not heard about the national recall announced last week.
Vermont Department of Health district offices received replacement shipments of Similac and Isomil liquid infant formulas and hundreds of cans were distributed over the weekend.
The liquid infant formula was not affected by the recall. WIC families who have the recalled product can exchange it with the replacement formula now that it is available. The recall was initiated by the manufacturer when traces of a small common beetle were detected in some of the products.
If patients are not aware of the recall, please provide an update and direct them to call their nearest Health Department District Office to receive replacement infant formula.

The recall includes:
- Similac and Isomil powder product lines offered in plastic containers (these are usually the bigger containers)
- Similac and Isomil powder product lines offered in 8-ounce sample cans, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
Vermont families who are not part of WIC and have received samples, or who purchased recalled products at stores can request replacement formula by contacting the manufacturer at http://similac.com/recall/consumer.
